The sky was softly overcast when Estelle and her two daughters arrived at Tower Point at Whitty's Lagoon in Victoria. The fields were open and inviting, perfect for exploring, and it didn’t take long for the girls to start bouncing with excitement. With their matching bows and sweet smiles, they were ready for an afternoon of fun. But like all kids, they needed a little warm-up to shake off any camera shyness.

One of my favorite parts of photographing families is helping kids feel at ease so they can just be themselves. I've learned over the years that children often need a moment to relax and let their natural playfulness shine.

The girls were all smiles as they darted through the tall grasses, their laughter filling the air. Moments like this are what I love most—when children forget about the photos and just have fun. Estelle stood back for a moment, watching her daughters with that familiar mix of pride and nostalgia. I could see how much she cherished their bond, and that’s when I suggested they gather together for some close, heartfelt shots.

My approach to photographing families is always centered around connection and fun. By focusing on play, we capture genuine smiles, real laughter, and those tender moments that can’t be posed. It’s especially meaningful to me as a photographer, but also as a mom who knows just how fleeting these childhood years can be.

This was one of those sessions that reminded me why I love what I do—capturing not just how families look, but how they feel when they’re truly present with one another.
