Family life moves quickly

One year blends quietly into the next — children grow, personalities deepen, and ordinary days slowly become the memories we treasure most.

Family and milestone photography is simply a way to pause for a moment and preserve this season as it truly feels right now.

My approach is calm and natural. There is no pressure to perform or pose perfectly. Instead, the goal is to create photographs that reflect your family honestly — the connection, the laughter, the quiet moments, and the small details that make this season of life your own.

These are the images families return to years from now when they want to remember what this time felt like.

A Thoughtful, Unhurried Experience

Family sessions are designed to feel relaxed and comfortable for everyone involved — especially children.

We move at a natural pace, allowing time for kids to warm up, explore, and simply be themselves. Gentle guidance is offered when needed, but the focus is always on capturing genuine moments rather than forcing posed expressions.

Many families tell me afterward that the session felt less like a photoshoot and more like spending an hour together outdoors.

That’s exactly the intention.

Booking a Session

Sessions are offered throughout the year in limited quantities.

Keeping the calendar intentionally small allows each family to receive a relaxed experience and careful attention from start to finish.

If you’ve been thinking about family photos this year, this is a beautiful time to do them.

Spring and fall dates tend to fill early.

Andrea has photographed my family now twice and we have plans for both spring and fall shoots as well. The way she captures authentic moments so naturally and beautifully is a talent I have looked for in a photographer for years. Andrea will be our forever family photographer.

FAQ

Where do family sessions take place?

Most sessions take place outdoors at natural locations around Greater Victoria — beaches, quiet parks, or open natural spaces that allow families to relax and move comfortably.

Once your session is booked, I’ll recommend a few locations that photograph beautifully and work well for families with children.

What should we wear for our family photos?

Simple clothing in soft, neutral tones photographs best and helps keep the focus on connection rather than outfits.

I usually recommend avoiding busy patterns or large logos and instead choosing clothing that feels comfortable and natural for your family.

After booking, you’ll receive a short guide with suggestions to make this easy.

What if my children don’t cooperate?

This is one of the most common concerns parents have — and it’s completely normal.

Children do not need to behave perfectly during a session. In fact, some of the best photographs come from the in-between moments: laughter, curiosity, and movement.

The session is designed to allow children to warm up and be themselves. Teenagers too!

How many images will we receive?

After your session, you’ll receive a curated online gallery of professionally edited images.

All galleries include 30+ images, all delivered in high resolution with printing and sharing rights.

How far in advance should we book?

Many families book 1–2 months in advance, especially for spring and fall sessions.

Because the calendar is intentionally limited, dates can fill quickly during busy seasons.

What happens if the weather is unfavorable on the day of an outdoor shoot?

If it is raining heavily on the day of an outdoor shoot, we can discuss alternatives such as rescheduling the session or finding an indoor location.

This decision will be made within 24 hours of the scheduled shoot, as weather predictions constantly change.

What if we’ve never had professional photos before?

That’s completely fine — many of the families I photograph are doing their first professional session.

My approach is simple and relaxed. I’ll guide you gently when needed and leave plenty of room for natural moments to unfold.

You don’t need to prepare anything complicated — simply arrive as you are.

Do you offer mini sessions?

Yes — seasonal mini sessions are offered a few times each year, typically in spring, fall, and early November for Christmas cards.

These are shorter sessions offered on specific dates.

If you're looking for a more relaxed experience with greater flexibility, the Family & Milestone Session is usually the best choice.

Do you photograph sacramental milestones?

Yes. Many families book Family & Milestone Sessions to document important moments such as:

  • First Communion
  • Confirmation
  • Baptism
  • Vow Renewal

These sessions are photographed with the same calm, natural approach.

Family Photographer Serving Victoria and the Westshore

Many of the families I photograph live throughout Victoria and the Westshore, and sessions often take place in the natural spaces that make this part of the island so beautiful.

Some families come from Victoria, Oak Bay, and Saanich, while others travel from Langford, Colwood, and View Royal for their sessions.

Rather than working in a studio, most sessions take place outdoors — along quiet beaches, forest trails, and open parks where families can move comfortably and children have space to explore.

These natural settings help create photographs that feel relaxed and authentic, allowing families to focus on simply being together.

For families looking for natural, meaningful family photography in Victoria, BC, these sessions offer a calm and thoughtful way to preserve this season of life.
