As a family photographer in Victoria, BC, I’m incredibly grateful to work in a place with such a range of scenic backdrops. Whether you’re hoping for sandy beaches, grassy meadows, or rugged coastal views, Victoria has a spot that’s perfect for each family’s unique story. Here are some of my favourite family photo locations, along with tips to help you make the most of each setting!

No. 1 Tower Point at Whitty’s Lagoon


If you’re looking for a more secluded, rugged coastal vibe, Tower Point at Whitty’s Lagoon is a stunning spot. With its rocky shoreline, driftwood-strewn beaches, and peaceful forest trails, this location is perfect for families who want a mix of adventurous and serene scenes. Kids can explore the rocks, splash near the water, and climb on the driftwood while I capture those genuine moments of family fun.


Best time to shoot: Early evening for soft, golden light and a bit more privacy.

No. 2 Beaver/Elk Lake


For families who love the outdoors, Beaver and Elk Lake offer a beautiful, natural backdrop with plenty of room to explore. With forested trails, grassy meadows, and the lake’s calm waters, there are lots of spots to create a variety of looks in one session. It’s perfect for active families who want both wide open spaces and cozy moments together by the water.


Best time to shoot: Golden hour in the evening or early morning for the best light and quiet atmosphere.

No. 3 Saxe Point Park


Saxe Point Park has a little bit of everything: ocean views, rocky outcrops, and lush, open areas. This park is ideal for families who want a mix of coastal and park settings, as you get stunning views over the Strait of Juan de Fuca, perfect for those breezy, windswept shots. There’s plenty of room for kids to explore, climb, and play, which brings out natural smiles and candid family moments.


Best time to shoot: Late afternoon to early evening, for warm lighting over the ocean.

No. 4 Uplands Park


If you’re looking for open meadows, wildflowers, and stunning Garry Oak trees, Uplands Park is a beautiful choice. This park has a unique, natural landscape with a mix of grassy meadows and forested areas, offering a calm, timeless backdrop for your family photos. It’s especially lovely in spring when wildflowers bloom, adding pops of color to your shots.

No. 5 Beacon Hill Park


Beacon Hill Park is one of Victoria’s most iconic locations, known for its gorgeous landscapes and variety of photo spots. With open grassy fields, peaceful ponds, and colourful flower gardens, this park has something for every family. Kids love the wide spaces where they can run and play, adding lively energy to your photos. The park’s diverse settings allow for both playful and intimate family moments, making it an ideal location for sessions.


Best time to shoot: Spring and summer for blooming flowers or autumn for warm foliage.
